RESPONSIBLE TOURISM

At GRG's, we try our hardest to be a responsible travel company. Responsible Tourism is tourism ‘that creates better places for people to live in, and better places to visit’. We know that whatever we do impacts our environment. We leave no trace of us ever being where we have trevelled and want to make sure that whatever trip we go on, the only thing we leave behing is footprints.

We are committed to our local community as as such we are 100% local, (except for Chrissy..but she may as well be Nepali now!). From the bus drivers, raft guides and porters to the food we buy, guesthouses we stay in and transport we use. All 100% Nepali. We use qualified Nepali guides who know this country better than anyone and we pay them a fair wage. We know all our employees like our family (and in a few cases they actually are) and do not want to cheat them out of what they deserve. By paying them fairly we believe they will give you a better service as well.

We are not driven by profit. You are not paying for us to live in fancy accommodation, but giving people the opportunity to work in Nepal and feed their families and educate their children. We do what we do becasue we love it! We do not live an expensive lifestyle or have expensive overheads, which means we can also keep things cheaper for you! And you can be certain that every penny you spend with GRGs stays in Nepal to benefit Nepal.

We try to get involved in environemental projects whever we can. The state of Nepali rivers is a big concern to us and we want to do what ever we can to keep them running clear. We take every effort we can to keep our rivers safe and clean.

We demonstrate our commitment to responsible tourism delevlopment in a number of ways....

  • We are committed to staff training and education. This involves training our staff in subjects as diverse as client service, wilderness first aid, cooking, camp hygiene, language skills, environmental awareness and minimal impact back country travel.
  • When running trips we try and keep our numbers small so that we do not have too much impact on our environment.
  • When camping, we cook using gas rather than fire wood and if we have fires in the evenings whilst on the river banks we will only use drift wood that we find on the river side rather than buying wood from local villagers so as not to encourage deforestation.
  • We use well maintained vehicles to prevent unnecessary pollution.
  • When we leave a camp we make sure that we take ALL our rubbish with us to dispose of properly.
  • We bury our toilet waste well away from and running water
  • We only use boidegradable soaps and detergents
  • We treat water rather than buying thousands of unnecessary plastic bottles
