Remote Area Trekking The expanses of the Himalaya encompasses some of the most breathtaking and remote regions in the world. Places that can only be accessed by walking and for centuries gone by have remained little changed by modern progression and development. Remote and restricted area trekking takes you into regions that are politically and environmentally sensitive, facilities are minimal and fully equipped camping treks are required. Permits must be obtained through registered trekking agencies or else trekking in any of these places is not possible. Upper Mustang Upper Mustang is the restricted region to the north of Jomsom and on the edge of the Tibetan plateau. This unbelievable trek follows the holy Kaligandaki River up into the mind blowing scenery of Upper Mustang, through some of the most remote villages in Nepal to the mystical walled city of Lo Mantang with its amazing four story palace. Passing through the arid high altitude desert region this trek is a photographer’s paradise with endless views, Gompa’s and rustic homes dotting the route. The region is rich in Tibetan Buddhism and the people are a simple farming people, farming the arid land and herding yaks and goats. |

Dolpa Wilderness The Dolpa is in Nepal’s far North West, an un spoilt wilderness, hot and dry in summer and frozen solid in winter, the people that live here are truly remarkable as this is one of the remotest inhabited regions in the world. Encompassed by the Shey-Phoksundo National Park, Dolpa is home to wild blue sheep, the elusive Snow Leopard and the incredible Phoksundo Lake with is emerald waters. The region is inhabitant by Trans Himalayan trading people of Tibetan origins. They trade salt and butter coming form the Tibetan plans for grain, rice and other goods coming from the lower lands of Nepal. This ancient way of life spans back generations. Villages here use yaks and sheep to port their good form the arid tundra down to the lower foothills. |

Kanchenjunga Tucked away in the far north east of Nepal is the towering peak of Mount Kanchenjunga at 8598m, straddling Tibet, India and Nepal. This beautiful mountain stands guard over Kanchenjunga National Park. The journey to the base camp of this impressive mountain passes along barley walked trails and immerses you in unique blend of Tibetan and Northern Indian cultures as well as that of one of Nepal’s smallest ethnic groups, The Rai’s. This is one of the most beautiful and least explored regions of Nepal with some of the most impressive scenery on offer.

Jumla Rara Located in Nepal’s Wild West, Jumla Rara is one of the most beautiful and diverse remote areas for trekking. The area is encased by Rara National Park and is home to Rara Lake, the biggest Lake in Nepal. The region is densely forested with Himalayan Pine, Oak, Spruce, Juniper and Rhododendron. Here you can also find a good selection of Nepal’s wildlife, not found in other remote areas like the endangered Red Panda and Rhesus Macaque. Jumla is also one of the biggest rice growing areas of Nepal and is situated on the banks of the Tila River at an altitude of 2370 meters. |

Mt. Manasulu The Manaslu regions is tucked away to the north east of the Annapurna Trekking region and is one of the more remote and less trodden trekking routes in Nepal. The scenery is fantastic, offering lower foothills and forest to high Pastures and Plateaus as well as fine views of the middle Annapurna Range and Manaslu.
