Frequently Asked Questions Do I need a Visa? In short, yes. You can obtain a visa in your country before you travel or on arrival at Kathmandu Airport. No, we have all the experience required to safely to get you down the river. We will teach you everything you need to know on the water. How fit do I need to be? This depends on which trip you are joining. For most you do not have to be super fit, but the fitter you are the more fun you will have. For some of our more adventurous treks you will need to have a fair level of fitness. How many people will be on the trip with me? We try and keep most our groups relatively small. You can expect about 2 rafts on most of our trips. (6-8 people on each). If you are joining a kayak clinic, we always have 1 instructor to 2 clients. When trekking, we try to have groups no larger than 10. However if you are a larg group we can accommodate you on a private trip. Do we use safety kayakers? Yes, no matter how big or small, we will have a suitable amount of safety kayakers on EVERY river trip we run, guarenteed. Are GRG staff qualified? Yes, all our staff are qualified for the jobs they do, from first aid, whitewater rescue, trekkers liscence etc. What do I need to bring? Please see our river kit list and mountain kit list for an idea of what to bring. We will provide you with all rafting and kayaking equipment including paddle, helmet and PFD, as well as all equipment needed for camping. When rafting and kayaking how long do we spend on the water? On our expedition trips (Sun Kosi and Karnali for example) you can expect to spend around 6 hours a day paddling depending on the season. When taking part in a kayak school, it is up to you, we can do as little or as much as you like, but on average around 5 hours. How much money will I need? On our trips, your food, drinking water, accommodation, transport and equipment will all be covered. It is a good idea to bring some money with you, but you will only need a small amount if you wish to buy small snacks or souveniers along the way. What do we eat? We have a large variety of treats waiting for you! On rafting trips you can expect eggs, pancakes, potatoes, toast, museli, porridge, omlettes, and fruit for breakfast. Pasta, salads, tuna, baked beans, cheeses, salami, biscuits, crisps, bread, freid rice and fruit for lunch. Garlic bread, french fries, Dhal Bhat, chicken curry, mashed potato, Buffalo steak, chilli, Bolognasie, custard, rice pudding, fruit salad, popcorn and prawn crackers for dinner. We won't let you go hungry! We usually have biscuits and bananas in dry bags in the rafts as well for river time snacks! How far in advance do I need to book? To confirm your spot on our trips, the sooner you can book the better, however we are flexible and can take last minute bookings. How can I pay? If you are booking online, we will take a 40& deposit via paypal or bank transfer to secure your booking. The remaining can be paid upon arrival in cash or via paypal before you travel. If you are booking in country we will need 100% fee before you travel with us. Do I need travel insurance? We highly recommend that you take out travel insurance to cover you for the activites that you will be participating in. Make sure you check what class river you wil be running and to what altitude you wil lbe trekking as not all policies cover you for outdoor activities. I am an individual, can I join a trip? Yes, no matter if you are an individual, couple, family or group we can sort out a rtip to suit your needs. Many individuals join our groups. I have children travelling with me, can they go kayaking or rafting as well? We have had many school groups and children travelling with us in the passed and we are happyto have them join us on a raft/kayak trip. As long as they can fit into a life jacket they are welcome to join. However there are a few rivers that we will not be comfortable taking them to. The Trisuli and Seti rivers are perfect for children. Can we get pictures? Yes, we usually take our wateproof camera, headcam and camcorder on river trips and can make you a CD at the end of the trip. If you would like to bring your own camera we can provide you with a dry bag but this is at your own risk.
